CEP-REC Introduction of Regional Energy Concepts

Project summary: The general objectives are the promotion of Renewable Energy Sources (RES) and the utilisation of their exploitation as a development engine and a sustainability factor at the regional/local level. The project‘s specific objectives are the visualisation and quantification of energy demand at the regional/local level as a first step in the effort to promote renewable energy sources; the mobilisation of the endogenous energy and business potential as guarantees of sustainable energy supply; the support of the discussion on the regional energy demand and supply and the negotiation on the strategy to be followed; the promotion of the instrument of the Regional Energy Concepts  as a prerequisite for sustainable energy supply at the regional, local, national and Central Europe level.

Transnational cooperation is an added value to reach the project goals because a wide area debate and negotiation will contribute to build up common models and processes regarding energy policies. Coordinated action has to be taken to meet these issues. The realisation of the present project is an important opportunity to foster this coordinated action. All partners have relevant experience in the management of EU funded transnational projects and co-operations. The involved partners  will support the project with up to date knowledge and know how on their area of interest, which together with their experience, will ensure innovative findings and contribute to reach the project targets. The partnership building was the first crucial element of the preparation actions, which aims at setting up such a partnership which already have experience in the field of energy policy and Renewable Energy Sources and have the potential to elaborate and implement the strategy. The main actions in the first part of the project are the mapping and assessment of the current situation and potential of the concept regions, as well as the assessment of the regional energy demand and supply. Then the harmonisation of the findings and data will be realized in order to set up a comprehensive Regional Energy Concepts .

One of the main aims and expected results of the project is to develop at least one energy concept per concept region in each participating country. The know-how transfer of the partners will contribute to this process and as a goal a harmonised Regional Energy Concepts  will be implemented. The experience of the partners, which have already dealt with energy strategies will be a crucial help and input in the strategy building. As a long-term result the Regional Energy Concepts  will contribute to a sustainable life in the concept regions from economic and environmental  aspect, moreover a transferable methodology and core outputs will be realized, which will be applicable in any other countries. Therefore the outputs have an important role in the project. The reports aim at improving perception and decision making departure.

With this instrument the situation and potential of the regions will be mapped and assessed. Moreover the documentation of Regional Energy Demand and Supply will be supported and uniform methodology and taylor-made documentation environment will be established. Regional Energy Concepts  will combine the project‘s findings and the region's existing strategies and action plans. The joint strategy of REC will contribute to the identification and implementation of joint projects for regional energy roadmap 2020.
